Nonlinguistic Representations
According to Robert Marzano, knowledge is stored in the brain in two forms--a linguistic form and an imagery form. The imagery form of knowledge is referred to as nonlinguistic representation. The more that we use both forms, the better we are able to think about and recall information. A picture may indeed be worth a thousand words!

Whenever possible, have students create graphic organizers to generate nonlinguistic representations of knowledge.

It's always better if the kids create them themselves. To help give them some ideas and practice, use the links below for some sample graphic organizers that you might consider using in your classrooms.
